“My opponent is my teacher. My ego is my enemy” – Renzo Gracie
Whatever obstacles you face in life is an opportunity to learn. It’s an opportunity to get better.
Your ego gets in the way of your progress.
When you find yourself complaining or doing things for personal gain (more money, fame, power) then you ultimately losing in the end.
As Ryan Holiday and many others would say,
The obstacle is the way.
The ego is the enemy.
Personal Thought to Close the Year
Every year brings different situations, events and amazing things.
But as humans we’re hardwired more towards the negative than the positive.
You’ll see people posting on their social media feeds about how they are so glad 2016 is over and that it was a “tough” year.
And I get it. Some things don’t go our way.
There are things we can’t control and yet there are other things that we can.
How we perceive situations ultimately determines our state of mind and our results in life.
The HARSH truth of the matter is this: If you’re reading this email, posting on Facebook or enjoying any of the luxuries of first world living (abundant food, clothing, shelter and clean drinking water) then you are winning in life.
Begin to appreciate this and don’t do it just in your 5 minute journal.
Appreciate everything that comes into your life.
Say “thank you” for all situations.
Because the more we can always steer our minds towards thinking everything is a benefit for us rather than a hinderance helps us push ourselves in the direction we want.
So have a happy new year and I’ll see you on the other side of 2017 my friend. I can’t wait to help you make it your best one yet.
