I’m writing this at my one of my favourite cafes in Toronto called Odin. The place is super cool: It has high ceilings, cement countertops, a lot of funky shapes popping out at almost every angle.
It’s really what I would imagine a coffee shop in the future to look like.
It’s the place where I learn and brainstorm all of the crazy workouts we do at my gym. Kinda like the Metabolic Finisher you’re gonna learn about today…
What is a Metabolic Finisher?
A metabolic finisher is an intense exercise or series of exercises performed at the end of your workout that’s made to ensure that you’ve expended every single drop of energy left in your tank.
Except for the occasional exercise addict I might meet, very few of my clients find finishers “fun,” at least while they’re performing them.
But if you value things like enhanced fat loss, mental toughness and the satisfaction that comes from pushing yourself to your absolute limit, metabolic finishers are tough to beat.
Below is a video a popular metabolic finisher that I use with my athletes here at Go Girl Body Transformation in Toronto, ON.
I use these finishers for a variety reasons, whether it’s to speed up their fat loss, increase their overall work capacity, or give them the conditioning needed to perform their best in any sporting event.
The Monster Metabolic Finisher
(Do each exercise in order, with good form, and transition with minimal rest)
15 Kettlebell Swings
40 Yard Sprint
Although I’ve provided you with seriously nasty metabolic finisher, you definitely want to switch these up on a frequent basis.
I’d do this finisher after your workouts but limit it to a maximum of 5-6x straight.
Doing this allows your body 2 amazing benefits:
1. It allows your body to adapt and get better at doing the exercise.
2. Changing the finisher ensures that you’re keeping your actively “inefficient” at exercise. The more “inefficient” we can make your body with a workout the better your bodies ability to burn fat.
With all the great conditioning tools available from battling ropes to landmine training to sled training to sprint intervals to barbell complexes and circuits, it’s literally endless what you can do with some purposeful creativity.
Aside from the amazing fitness and physique benefits, these finishers will test your mind and help build the inner strength needed take on any challenge that life throws at you.
Constantly step outside your comfort zone and make sure you challenge yourself to finish stronger than you started!
